Hello friend,
I’m Hattie Zhou. I was once an economics student wanting to be an entrepreneur, but through a series of unlikely events, I started trying my hands at doing AI research. Despite having no formal training in STEM, I had fantastic mentors who were eager to teach while I was eager to learn. I ended up writing some papers I’m proud of, and was lucky enough to do a PhD with two advisors and a number of collaborators who I very much admire. Nowadays I’m working as a member of technical staff at Anthropic, aiming to bring safe AGI to the world.
What I’m currently thinking about:
how does reasoning emerge in humans and language models
how to make models more data efficient
once we have access to human-level AGI at $10/hour or less, how will we use them?
how to align models that are much smarter than us
how to use AI to learn new subjects as fast and as deeply as possible
new therapy and coaching modalities with AI

If you are a researcher, and you have 1) an idea that you think I can help with, 2) questions about my research, 3) an opportunity that would interest me, the best way to contact me is through email (zhou dot hattie at gmail).
If you think it would be fun to chat with me, especially if you share one of my current interests, the best way is to DM me on Twitter @oh_that_hat. If you would like to invite me to a dinner party or the like in San Francisco, I will appear at your event pro bono :P.
If we are already friends, please text me. I’m probably thinking about you.
